History
The history of Belovo begins long before the town took its modern form. For centuries, the Maritsa River valley has served as a natural gateway between the heart of the Balkans and the Thracian Plain. This strategic location led to the gradual emergence of small settlements that eventually laid the foundation for the vibrant communities we see today.
The true transformation of Belovo took place in the 19th century. In 1873, the railway connecting Sofia with Plovdiv—and onward to Istanbul—reached the area. At that time, Belovo served as a vital railway terminus, becoming a key transport hub for travelers, merchants, and trade. The arrival of the railroad provided a powerful catalyst for growth, permanently shaping the town’s industrial landscape and social life.
